All change is not growth…

All change is not growth; all movement is not forward.

  1. On first reading this quote, it’s depressing, but after thinking about it, one sees it’s truth. Maybe it would sound less hopeless to say that all change is not growth, but evolution; all movement is not forward but it beats inertia.

    • Thank you for writing. I didn’t see the words as being depressing, but more as a warning. There are many who seem to believe that any change is “a good thing.” But certainly we don’t have to look far to find examples where things would have been much better off if left alone (without the change). I think we have to be responsible for the times we bring about and/or allow change in our lives- we have to do our best to make sure that change comes as a good and right thing.

(This, of course, is easier said than done.)

      • I agree with you, Jeremiah, but we must also consider that a change that seems bad or wrong at one moment may create a situation that puts us in the position for ultimate growth.

If your talking about choices (changes that we decide to make for ourselves) then I don’t we should make changes for the sake of changing–unless we’re stuck in a rut or in a harmful situation.

Things change all to quickly whether or not we want to ‘allow’ it anyway. It’s the one thing we can count on.
